Replacement of load moment monitoring system on the Pioneering Spirit
Allseas Engineering, owner of the Pioneering Spirit – the world’s largest heavy lift construction vessel
Allseas Engineering, owner of the Pioneering Spirit – the world’s largest heavy lift construction vessel – commissioned us in 2016 to replace the load moment monitoring system, implement software modifications to the PLC of the crane and to subject the crane to a 600 tonne test load. This replacement was necessary as it is not possible to make changes to the load moment and Allseas Engineering wanted to be able to add special load curves. The new load moment monitoring system has 25 different load curves and it is possible to add special load curves. The new monitoring system consists of a DS130 controller and a PAT-Krüger display. The DS130 controller uses a TCP socket connection to communicate with the PLC of the crane. After replacing the load moment monitoring system, the main hoist was tested with a 600 tonne platform.
A complete overview
The crane concerned has a 600 tonne main hoist and 50 tonne auxiliary hoist. The main host and auxiliary hoist are selected with two different joysticks. The crane’s working range is 360 degrees, onboard and off board. The sea state can be selected on the display. For the main hoist, the reevings can be adjusted from twelve to two. The auxiliary hoist is also suitable for transporting people, or so-called man riding. The display shows current load, maximum load, boom angle, radius, hoist height, slewing angle, wind speed, sea state, x and y-axis and the operating mode.
