6 Schneider Electric and EPMC Europe: a great team! MBI, manufacturer of paving for decorative applications and the construction and infrastructure industries, has had a major technical adaptation carried out on its gantry crane in 2014. The work was carried out in close collaboration between Schneider Electric and EPMC Europe. “To MBI, this gantry crane represents the main link between the stocks of raw materials and the production process,” Jarno de Vries, Head of MBI’s Technical Department explains. “The frequently used lifting and locking motors were run via relays and both the brakes and the mechanical construction were overloaded. At a certain point, malfunctions occurred frequently and MBI cannot afford downtime, as this has an immediate negative impact on production. The Schneider Electric/EPMC Europe combination was one of four potential parties for the main technical alterations to the gantry crane. Their considerable experience and expertise set them apart from other providers of crane retrofitting services and their pricing was favourable as well. In addition, the purpose of this overhaul was to make the crane more energy efficient, which is Schneider Electric’s main strength. Their references in this respect are excellent. As a result, MBI now has a modern, sustainable crane with a high degree of operational reliability. Both in the preliminary stages and when the work was being carried out, it became obvious that Schneider Electric and EPMC Europe are perfectly attuned to each other and utilise each other’s expertise. The work had to be finished before the end of the construction industry holiday. That was actually a strict requirement of ours, because our production is down during those weeks. We are impressed with the implementation process and the end result, and we are happy to continue the relationship. In the next few years EPMC will carry out the inspections for the crane.”
